Common Abbreviations and Definitions for Car Monitors and Auto Electronics

January 8th, 2012 DVD Portable No comments

A quick quide for beginners to the common abbreviations associated with car monitors or auto electronics entertainment systems.

The so called car DVD monitor system has gained incredible popularity mainly due to enthusiasts of “car modding” or “suped cars” – so as you might expect with anything that combines hobbyist enthusiasts with cool gadgets, there’s a fair bit of jargon to sort through especially if you are a car audio monitor newbie.

* Changer – a CD changer; a device which holds several CDs and plays them on demand without having to eject or manually sort discs. Needless to say you can now get DVD changers too.

* Crossover – a device that limits the range of frequencies sent to different speakers.

* DIN – it basically stands for “Deutsches Institut für Normung” (DIN, the German Institute for Standardization), similar to ISO. The relevance for car DVD systems is that DIN means a standard sized dashboard slot, so 1 DIN means the device takes up one slot, and 2 DIN means the unit is ‘double-decker’ and uses the space of two slots.

Examples of a 1 DIN and 2 DIN Car Monitors

* DTS – “Digital Theater Systems” multichannel audio – simply another surround-sound standard like Dolby Digital 5.1 – Pretty pointless in your car but it’s another thing to show-off.

* DVD-A – DVD audio – Similar to a music CD with the exception of more features and higher quality.

* RF – Radio Frequency – Refers to things such as wireless headphones. RF is generally better than Infra Red because you do not have to be in the clear unobstructed transmission or line of sight wireless transmitter.

* Inverter – A power supply device that you can plug into your car dashboard cigarette lighter to supply AC to energy-demanding devices.

* In-dash – A device such as a in car DVD player installed in your dashboard, usually in the same slot of your old car radio.

* GPS – Global Positioning System – this essentially means navigation / map display software linking to a signal receiver and a readout on your car monitor or screen.

* GUI – Graphical User Interface – ie: you can control the device using on-screen menus, often with a touch screen monitor.

* Headliner – The coverings that make up the ceiling / roof inside your car.

* Modulator – A FM transmitter that turns an audio input source, for example an MP3 player or audio line-in, into a radio signal for you to tune into using your car stereo.

* Monitor – A display screen that receives a signal from a car DVD player or car TV tuner – if a product is described as simply a “Monitor” it typically means it does NOT include the actual player such as a car DVD player unit. This is fine if you are buying each unit separately or you are building a full in-car entertainment system piece by piece.

* Motorized – Where the TFT LCD screen of the display, usually in a car in dash unit, neatly folds and slides inside its housing when it is not in use.

Motorized 1 DIN Touch Screen Car Monitor ~ Open & Closed

* Power port – A “powerful” name for the little dashboard cigarette lighter socket

* RCA – A red and white (for audio) and yellow (for video) connector used for connecting your car DVD player to your car monitor or your home media center to your widescreen TV.

* RDS – Radio Display (Data) System – The cool function with the ability for your car radio to display detailed data such as the name of the station or the track name from FM radio signals.

* Receiver – The device that “transmits” your video signal to a screen such as a car DVD player. Confusing? Yeah, we know.

* S-Video – Is a high quality cable for analog video signals that carries the video data as two separate signals, both brightness and color.

* Sub – Commonly known as a subwoofer. Refers to either a driver or a complete loudspeaker dedicated to the reproduction of bass audio frequencies, typically from 150 Hz down to 20 Hz.

* Toslink – A standardized optical fiber connection system. Its most common use is in consumer audio equipment where it carries a digital audio stream between components such as MiniDisc and CD players and DAT recorders.

* Versatile – a vague term that generally just means “feature rich”, eg. a car DVD player that also has a built-in radio and connects with external storage devices.

Tower Heist Review

January 8th, 2012 DVD Portable No comments

Judging by the trailer, Tower Heist looked like it could be hit or miss. Some of it looked funny and other parts made the film look like it would be corny. I know that you can’t judge a movie by its trailer, so I was more than willing to see it anyway. It starred Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy together for the first time and also included a deep cast of solid actors, so that was interesting enough for me to at least to give it a chance.

Arthur Shaw (Alan Alda) is a Wall Street businessman who gets in trouble for scheming millions of dollars out of unsuspecting investors. A group of his victims actually work at the high-rise where he lives. Once they realize that they’ve been robbed of their pensions, they decide to get even by stealing back money that he may have hidden in a secret department in his apartment. Josh Kovacs (Ben Stiller) makes it his duty to the lead the team on this heist with the help of an old “friend” named Slide (Eddie Murphy), who also happens to be a career criminal. Getting together a team who wants to help is easy, but getting them to develop the fortitude to pull the heist off proves to be much more difficult.

Tower Heist is a film where the dialog is its primary source of comedy. The back and forth banter between the characters is entertaining and that’s partially because the personalities were so different and they had unique things to bring to the table. All of them helped move the film along as we get to learn about them, parts of their personal lives and their relationships with one another. I’ll also say that the characters are far more important to the movie than anything else, including the plot. They are the backbone of the film and it’s obvious to see from the beginning.

While I acknowledge the entire cast and their positive contributions as a whole, it has to be said that Tower Heist truly comes alive when Eddie Murphy gets involved. I’m happy to say that this movie manages to brings back the Rated-R version of Eddie Murphy that’s been missing for a long time. He appeared to return to his old form in this movie and that’s a good thing. Murphy stole the show in every scene he was in and did some of what made him into a star. We haven’t seen this version Eddie in a while and I wish he had more screen time. I hope he stays in these roles for the foreseeable future, because that would be good for business.

Although I do like Tower Heist, I wish that it was smarter than it was. It offered itself multiple chances to do that, but it rarely took advantage of those said chances. I’ll also point out that it had a few blatant holes in the movie that can’t be explained away easily if you tried, you’ll have to see those for yourself. In the end, it was just a fun movie that I enjoyed. They brought back the real Eddie Murphy and added a lot of wise cracking jokes that made up for some of its flaws. It’s not complicated and I don’t think it was supposed to be. Tower Heist is a movie made for laughs and that’s what you get.

This can either be listening to the radio or enjoying an album by some very talented artist. The problem with most radios however is that they tell you the time at regular intervals which can be problematic in terms of making time apparently passing much more quickly.

Sometimes the driver would only like to concentrate on the road whilst the passenger do the opposite and listen to music as loud as possible. the best solution for such situations is to have noise cancelling headphones that are also very well insulated sound-wise. This way the driver will not hear any leaked noise and the passenger will not hear any background noise.

In recent years there have been many advances in headphone and hands free technologies which relate to you automobile. Acoustic noise cancellation headphones work by destructing all incoming sound waves by applying the opposite sound wave to them. the concept is actually very solid but in practice it does not block out 100% of background sound. Most manufactures display the actual amount of sound blocked out which is typically between 50% and 70%. However I have very little doubt that in the next decade the top manufactures will find a way to further increase the quality of noise cancelling headphones.

The interfaces of audio equipment for cars is getting better every year. The best current interface is touchscreen monitors because they made both for the driver and passenger with user friendliness in mind. How to Choose Mobile Electronics for Your Car: Add Convenience, Safety, or Entertainment

January 8th, 2012 DVD Portable No comments

Interested in upgrading your car or truck with mobile electronics but aren’t sure where to start? From car GPS to car alarms, there are lots of great options out there, but it’s easy to get overwhelmed when you’re considering the full array of aftermarket electronics for your vehicle. Should you get the remote starter first or opt for the car audio system? Would it be better to install a car alarm before or after the car DVD player? Here are some of the most popular aftermarket car audio and electronics selections broken down to help make your tough choice a bit easier.

Convenience

Installing mobile electronics on your car or truck can help make your life a little simpler. Two favorite options for adding a bit more convenience to your daily routine are:

GPS navigation systems. Providing directional guidance and point-of-interest mapping, car GPS systems help keep you from getting lost no matter where you’re headed. GPS navigation systems are a great investment if you frequently drive in unfamiliar areas, have a knack for making wrong turns, or even if you just need to minimize travel times between errands or appointments.

Remote starters. Enabling you to turn on your vehicle from a distance, remote car starters allow you to preheat the engine and warm or cool the passenger compartment (depending on the season) for optimal comfort from the moment you get in the driver’s seat. You may want to consider installing an automatic car starter if you hate the extreme temperatures of chilly January mornings or steamy July afternoons or if you’re concerned about the wear and tear of driving without preheating your engine.

Safety

Every little bit counts when it comes to safety and your vehicle. Among the more popular options for increasing the safety of your car or truck are:

Car alarms. Car alarm installation is a practical choice for any driver who wants to safeguard their car or truck by preventing theft. And remember, if you’re planning on installing other mobile electronics, you may want to put in the car alarm first so that your vehicle security system will be in place to protect your other components once they are installed.

Bluetooth integration. Helping you keep both hands on the wheel by making calling hands-free, installing a Bluetooth system in your vehicle adds both convenience and improved safety. Bluetooth installation is practical whether you make business or personal calls, and with this hands-free technology, you can also get additional features like voice texting and on-screen caller ID that make driving and chatting a breeze.

Entertainment

Of course, when people think about mobile electronics, what comes to mind most often is entertainment. Leading choices for improving your entertainment experience when you’re behind the wheel include:

Car audio. From speakers and amps to new head units, you have virtually limitless options when it comes to upgrading your vehicle’s car audio system. If your current car stereo is seriously lacking or you spend a lot of time on the road, installing a new car audio setup can help you make your driving experience a whole lot more enjoyable.

Car DVD players. Bringing the enjoyment of movies to your car or truck, in-car video is a favorite way to provide optimal entertainment for children and adults alike. Ideal for everything from long road trips to errands, choosing to install a car DVD player makes sense if you’re looking to diversify your mobile entertainment options beyond car audio.

No matter which car electronics choices you select, you’re certain to love the convenience, safety, or entertainment they provide. So happy driving! Contact your area car audio video shop to learn more or to get started on your installation.

On Hands Professional Review for the Brand New Pioneer AVH-P6300BT

January 8th, 2012 DVD Portable No comments

The actual initial impression

Getting it out from the package it appeared quite tiny, much like some outdated car cassette device and I ended up being a bit disappointed to tell the truth. However when it had been hooked up and its huge monitor eventually got out of that tiny unit I ended up being surprised.

Its 7″ LCD Touch screen is probably the very best monitor I have seen on the marketplace so far. And the way it simply slips from that little device simply blows you away. This brand new AVH-P6300BT features a WQVGA image resolution along with 480×240 pixels as well as 16:9 wide screen aspect ratio however the picture seems so a lot better than you might be expecting with this sort of screen. It is completely anti-glare coated however I did not have an opportunity to test drive it during sunlight yet.

The actual screen may be automatically changed to five diverse watching angles or may be personally set simply by altering the actual angle setting between fifty and one hundred ten degrees. Additionally, it offers numerous configurations regarding background pictures, animated graphics as well as key illuminations to keep you occupied when you get bored stiff.

A great detail is certainly its removable face security option in case you happen to be someplace where you don’t wish to leave the device unattended.

Media support in AVH-P6300BT

I made a decision to go with this particular unit simply because Pioneer said it’s completely up-to-date with just about all the fresh media file sorts available. Therefore the very first thing I performed was a comprehensive test of these statements. Apparently, this product can play just about everything you put inside this product. I used Compact discs, DVDs, RW CDs and DVDs, Video and audio CDs and DivX films and Pioneer AVH-P6300BT played all of them having absolutely no trouble whatsoever. It can handle MP3, WMA, AAC for iTunes, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and JPEG files and can play them right back even from a SD card as well as an USB device. Pioneer AVH-P6300BT audio performance and quality.

The next thing I needed to try was the actual quality of the playback. It is outfitted with a MOSFET amplifier that may provide you with 50 Watts on 4 channels and 22 Watts of RMS power. This will be sufficient for normal speaker systems however you shouldn’t expect a lot should you have a high powered system or even a sub woofer. From the beginning this item possessed superb audio quality even prior to configuring its equalizers.

Its incorporated PCM decoder as well as its Digital-to-Analog 96 kHz/24 bit converter perform a good job and have a very large influence regarding quality of sound together with Advanced Sound Retriever program which corrects any kind of errors created during the digital compression of audio. Additionally, it arrives accompanied by Dolby Digital decoder along with a DTS digital out which generally tend to be common for this sort of models coming from Pioneer.

At this point the time had come to try its equalizers. It’s got a good 8-band graphic equalizer along with Easy EQ feature which has predetermined tone curves for easy selection as well as three loudness settings. Setting up the equalizers by hand is actually quite simple and precise and may truly enhance your quality of sound if you put some effort in it. Of course, if you would like even better quality sound you may get the additional Auto equalizer component from Pioneer. Additionally, it comes with an incorporated high and low pass along with a sub woofer crossover.

Something I truly like is definitely the brand new SLA (Source Level Adjustment) software which enables you to adjust volume levels between various sources individually which generally can help you save a large amount of time.

Connectivity

Having the audio set-up to achieve finest quality I needed to give my mobile gadgets a shot with my all new Pioneer AVH-P6300BT. The actual factor which helped me select this particular unit above the P4300DVD, other than its single-din casing anyway, is actually its built-in Wireless Blue tooth adapter. This enables you to link your mobile gadgets a lot quicker and easier and also it’s got built-in support for telephone call streaming via your sound system and an external sound microphone with distortion filter is included.

However, if you like cable connections better you may always make use of its USB slot on the front side for connecting your preferred units. It is specifically optimized for iPhone and iPod along with incorporated support for Pandora web radio and iTunes. You’ll need one more cable from Pioneer for connecting your Apple products however it is without question worth the cash. It’s got enhanced compatibility so you may even take control of your iPhone or iPod from the AVH-P6300BT big screen through its app mode.

If you’re a car radio fan as I am you will really enjoy this device. It’s got the brand new Pioneer Supertuner IIID with 24 stations and 6 presets. Its BSM (Best Station Memory) is actually an excellent detail that you’ll definitely like. However, if you truly love listening to the fm radio you would like to acquire some of the excellent add-on modules designed for this particular product. You are able to choose between HD radio, XM satellite radio and SIRIUS satellite radio or simply have them altogether.

A sensible way to save you a lot of cash is by employing your iPhone GPS however if cash is actually not a major issue for you presently there is an extra navigation component from Pioneer for the AVH-P6300BT that will enhance it to a new complete in-dash navigation system. Extra displays or perhaps a rear view camera may be incorporated additionally as well as one more DVD player.

You additionally receive a wireless handheld remote control but you’ll find it offers Steering Wheel Remote support that is often a good choice.

Summary

The brand new AVH-P6300BT is definitely a great choice, if not the greatest when it comes to in-dash devices. It’s got most likely the very best monitor on the marketplace, more than enough power, superb sound equalizers and is certainly compatible with nearly every mobile gadget you connect with it.

If perhaps size is not essential to you and you simply have no need for a Wireless Bluetooth adapter you could go with the P4300DVD however if you are searching for a single-din in-dash device which has it all than the Pioneer AVH-P6300BT is definitely the solution you’re looking for.

I’ve been working with car audio systems for 5 years and I’m a car audio lover myself. I also enjoy motocross riding, 4×4 off road riding and, of course, listening to high quality music.

If you would like to read at first hand review that I wrote for Pioneer AVH-P6300BT products, visit my website now!

If you visit PioneerAVH-P6300BT You will find Technical specifications and user manuals for all Pioneer In Dash products as well.

Sony TuneTray Vs Oxygen O-Car: Two Revolutionary Car Stereo Ideas

January 8th, 2012 DVD Portable No comments

It is now a well known fact that car stereos are moving to digital media at an ever increasing pace. 10Years ago a car stereo that did not play CD’s or even cassettes would have been a ludicrous idea, nowadays its what people want. Why carry a large wallet of CD’s that will get scratched and damaged when you can have your whole music collection on a card the size of your thumb nail?

There have been two major developments in the last 12months in the way we connect digital media to our vehicles, namely our iPods. Sony released their latest concept, the TuneTray, last September. This was met with much anticipation from the industry and public alike, featuring full speed digital media control and a connect anything attitude, Sony have had a big success with the DSX range. Starting at only £100, the TuneTray is not a technology that is exclusively for the rich and famous, it is available to everyone.

You may have never heard of Oxygen Audio. They were a fairly small French audio manufacturer until they had an idea that will again change the way we use our digital media. The O-Car is Oxygen Audio’s take on how we should integrate digital media into our daily lives. It features a similar concept to the TuneTray in that it only caters for the digital world of music, leaving CD and Cassette firmly behind however it currently only for iPhones. What it does with the iPhone is why I am sat here today comparing these two innovations. Conventional stereo’s will connect your iPhone via a cable or USB port, the O-Car allows your iPhone to BECOME the stereo.

I have had chance to use both systems recently, below are my findings.

Idea

The TuneTray was and still is a fantastic and innovative idea. The ability to connect any piece of USB hardware and hide it away within the stereo is unrivalled. No other stereo on the market can do what the TuneTray range can.

The O-Car is also innovative in how it turns your iPhone into a car stereo. This is easily the best way to integrate your iPhone into your car. The down side to this particular idea is that it has to be an iPhone 3GS or newer and has to be plugged into the stereo for anything to be heard. The radio tuner is an app that you can download for your iPhone.

Features

The TuneTray range has a huge list of features including bluetooth, multiple USB ports and high end equalizer controls. It comes with everything you would expect from a high end car stereo.

The O-Car allows you to provide the features! It comes with the standard RCA pre outs and high power amplifier that you would expect but it also enables you to use any features or apps that you have downloaded to your iPhone. You can use a TomTom sat nav app with it whilst listening to music, or make calls using a connected microphone. You can even turn your car into Digital Radio using apps such as Pandora or Spotify. The possibilities are only limited by the apps you buy.

Cost

Sony have been very clever in the way that they have branded the TuneTray. They haven’t just made it exclusive to a single, high priced model in there range, they have created a whole range around the idea. Starting at only £100 for the basic model and reaching £200 for the best, Sony have made the TuneTray accessible for everyone.

Oxygen Audio do not have the luxury of having multiple models due to the concept behind the unit. They have however priced the O-Car at a price that is very affordable. At £250 the O-Car is towards the top of the Single Din price range but for the features and quality of the unit I would still class it as very good value for money.

Ease of Use

This is where the Sony TuneTray is at a disadvantage when compared to the Oxygen O-Car. Displaying the full iPod menus on a 4line display is tricky and to do it right, Sony have had to make the control a little complicated at times. It is still a case of Albums, Artists and Playlists but there are hidden features like the searching by letter and quick search that when pressed by accident can throw you off target. When combined with the fiddly thumb stick control this accounts for a sometimes frustrating user interface.

The O-Car is the complete opposite, simply insert the iPhone into the dock and use it in as you would naturally. The O-Car does not impose onto the iPhone, even the Radio and Equalizer settings are altered using Oxygen’s Apps that were developed in house specifically for this stereo.

When put side by side these two huge step forwards are both equal to one another. The only difference is that they are two huge steps in slightly different directions. If you have an iPhone, you will want the Oxygen O-Car, it is simply the best iPhone compatible stereo on the market. If you have an iPod or any other USB device, the Sony TuneTray range is easily the best choice for you. No-body will be disappointed with either of the stereo’s I have featured in this article, it will be purely based on your own personal preference as to which will suit you best.

The Oxygen O-Car really is revolutionary in how it integrates your iPhone into your cars entertainment system. It is set to be the biggest product of 2011 and is going to take the world by storm!

You don’t need to worry about biases on Thor review because in few minutes you will be reading a fairly made review. In this Thor review, expect reading both the high points and low points of this movie. But I have to admit that Thor the movie is a must watch. Just like any other Marvel released movies namely Spiderman, Iron Man, Fantastic Four and X-Men, this would absolutely give you satisfaction with all its actors and actresses like Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman, to the action and adventure thrill it gives, and of course the heroic scenes and stunts Thor have portrayed. Watch out for this all-in-one Thor review!

Thor Review: The Highlights

An hour would not be enough in making a Thor review containing its high points and the positive angles of the movie. That is to say, Thor is such an amazing movie. If you are not a comic fan and you have not read any Marvel comics, watching this movie would give you the urge to read them. Of course, the movie’s story is similar to that of the comics yet, with all its renewed lines that turned seriously funny and silly would not stop you from laughing. Another fact is the line up of casts in this movie. A Thor review would not be complete without mentioning how the actors and actresses brought so much character and more life with the roles they play. Natalie Portman who played the role of Jane Forster showed to be the one delivering the punch lines and added up to the levity of the movie. And definitely, not to forget the main character, Thor played by Chris Hemsworth. Thor the movie wasn’t really a full-comedy movie, it gets serious when Thor gets to the scene and delivers his lines. You probably know how similar to that of Shakespeare Thor’s words were. The last but not the least highlight for a Thor review is how attractive Chris Hemsworth has gone. More ladies would really do see this movie for Chris Hemsworth may be considered an eye candy for ladies. Thor review, this superhero flick is click!

Thor Review: The Low Points

Every movie would not be considered as perfect as it can be. There will always be something that some people won’t be considering. As for this Thor review, you’ll get to know some down points of Thor the movie. These are absolutely few for Thor has really been a great movie. Number one low point is some serious dialogues and scenes included in the movie. I have to admit that some would not be able to fully-understand the exchange of dialogues all at the same time and you still have to think and process them in your mind. Thor review, seriousness kills the levity.

Thor the movie is available on 2D and 3D and for this Thor review I recommend you to enjoy watching it in 3D.

Residential Window Tinting: How You Can Keep Your Home Cool and Comfortable All Year Long!

January 7th, 2012 DVD Portable No comments

There’s nothing quite like natural sunlight. Flooding rooms with radiant light and warmth, it can even rejuvenate your glum mood. However, there are significant downsides to prolonged exposure to sunlight. Generating high, healthy levels of vitamin D in individuals, its UV rays are also known to be a leading cause of several types of skin cancer. Aside from the health-related implications of sunlight, practical concerns include high indoor temperatures, faded household items, and distracting glares.

Is there anything you can do to fight the harmful effects of sunlight on your home? The answer is yes. With residential window tinting, you’ll be able to filter the sunlight that streams through the windows, protecting yourself, your family, and all of your belongings. Made from the same material as automotive window tinting, window films for your house are the latest innovation in creating great energy efficiency and style. A sleek, subtle film that can be applied directly to your window panes, window tints offer a number of different benefits that will make your home look and feel great. Some advantages include:

Deflecting up to 99% of UV raysBlocking solar heat to keep your interior cool on hot daysIncreasing privacyProtecting your interior from sun damage and fadingProtecting you and your family from skin damage

Have you ever taken a moment to examine the current color of your plush sofa or carpeting? You might notice that the fabric is considerably washed out and faded compared to what it looked like when you first purchased it. The same goes for your wood flooring, old photographs, and wallpaper. Especially in rooms that get a significant amount of sunlight, the deteriorating effects of the sun’s UV rays can have a rather negative effect on your household items. That’s what makes residential window tint so advantageous. The light-filtering capabilities of window films mean you’ll be able to safeguard any brand-new furnishings and protect your existing ones from further damage. In the same way that automotive window tinting protects valuables like car audio components, navigation systems, and leather seats from sun damage, residential films will protect your home furnishings and delicate skin.

Moreover, keeping your home cool and comfortable can prove to be a huge drain on your expenses, especially in the hottest months of summer. Even if you manage to cut the humidity with a central air system, the solar heat that streams through your windows in the form of sunlight will counter all of your efforts and cause your air conditioner to work even harder. The results are monthly utility bills that make you want to rip your hair out. But with residential window tinting, you’ll be able to block solar heat from entering your home and ultimately maintain a much cooler temperature inside without consuming nearly as much energy.

With all of the latest advancements proving the negative effects of high energy consumption and sun exposure, residential window tints help you do your part for the environment and your own health.

90S Movie Review: Heavyweights

January 7th, 2012 DVD Portable No comments

With so many disgustingly obese, rotund, mammoth people like myself taking the world by storm, it isn’t hard to believe that there were 90s movies devoted to fatties. Of course, fat people can only be accepted by the public in comedic roles, and this film wouldn’t try to break that stereotype. This film is called Heavyweights.

Heavyweights is, quite simply, a movie about fat kids. Fat kids who were always the brunt of jokes, eaters of junk food, and constant outgrowers of clothing. It’s a family film about parents who think that sending their children to a rigorous fat camp is the only way for them to lead normal lives.

It’s the all-important last day of school and Gerry is a fat loaf of a child. He’s so fat that he misses his bus on the last way to school and has to run after it, waving his flabby arms in futility. Poor fat Gerry. His life gets worse when he arrives home and his parents spring the news that they’re shipping his grotesque body off to the fat-burning farm known as Camp Hope.

Reluctant at first, Gerry realizes that this camp can actually be fun. There are go karts and those giant inflatable things that you jump on to launch people into the air. Suddenly, Gerry’s “not the fat kid. Everyone’s the fat kid.” It’s also important to note that the other fat, undisciplined food addicts at the camp have smuggled in enough junk food hooch to last until the new millennium. This was going to be an awesomely bodacious summer, right? Wrong.

There are strange and horrible things afoot at the unassuming Camp Hope. On his first night at the camp, Gerry is shocked to learn that the original, fun owners of Camp Hope are bankrupt and have been forced to sell the camp to a douchebag of an infomercial fitness trainer named Tony Perkis who will stop at nothing to whip the kids into shape at the expense of their personal safety. He tries to relate to the kids by explaining how he was once a fattie, but his psychotic methods of weight loss and exercise quickly turn him into enemy number one.

Tony, on an insane power trip, goes so far as to raid the campers’ bunks and remove any and all junk food from the premises. He wakes them up at the crack of dawn and forces them into painful runs and merciless workout routines and generally makes their lives living hells.

The campers end up stumbling on the camp’s hidden food stash in the woods and begin to gain weight despite Tony’s insanity. After Tony learns of the weight gain, he forces them on a 20-mile hike as punishment. However, the campers trick Tony into falling into a pit trap which injures him and leaves him helpless. The boys manage to get Tony back to camp and build a prison cell for him out of chicken wire that has been electrified by a bug zapper.

As a result of the downfall of Tony’s reign of terror, the campers break out into an abhorrent display of binge eating to commemorate the occasion. Stuffing their faces with pizzas and ice cream sundaes, the kids go a little bit crazy. The next morning, the fat and lovable counselor Pat takes responsibility for the fat youngsters and decides to start helping them legitimately lose weight.

Later, the parents of the campers visit the camp and are shown a video of Tony’s cruelty to alert them to the situation. During the viewing, Tony escapes from his cell and interrupts them. Tony’s own father shows up to take the deed to the camp away from his son and to ensure that this will never happen again. Planning to close the camp and issue refunds, he instead listens the camper’s protests to keep the camp open. They nominate Pat as head counselor and he coaches them to just have fun and ends up leading them to a victory against an overly competitive rival summer camp.

There is enough slapstick and fat humor in this movie to keep any kid happy and it’s a family-friendly romp that even the parents will enjoy. 90s movies knew how to do it right. Check it out.
