How to Pick the Right Fuse Rating For Your Car Amps

January 10th, 2012 DVD Portable No comments

Understanding what the fuse does for your car amps and stereo equipment is critical. A simple fuse protects your stereo from being over powered and possibly burned out, or even worse catching fire. It is very dangerous to install a stereo without the properly rated fuse, because this will protect against shorts or other problems that can occur when driving your car. Some people blow fuses and just think oh I need a higher rated fuse or that a higher rated fuse will help their system perform better. This is not the case. Having a 120 amp or a 20 amp fuse will not make your stereo play any louder.

So how do you pick the right size fuse for your car audio system? First off you need to make sure you put the fuses in the right spot. I typically recommend having the fuse within 12″ of the battery. What this does is help the fuse blow faster. If there is a short the fuse will blow right away protecting the wire from melting and hopefully stopping power before reaching the amps. Now if we have a fuse in the trunk of the car it will take longer for the fuse to blow so the wire could get really hot and the current might reach your expensive stereo equipment.

Now as I mentioned before you also need to have the right rated fuse to protect your car amps. Finding out what size fuse you need is pretty simple. For a single amp install you simply add up the fuse rating on your amp. Be careful that the original rated fuses were not replaced with the wrong ones as this is pretty common. So say my amp has a single 25A fuse. I would then want to have a 25A fuse up by the battery as well. Sometime you have to round up so I might use a 30A fuse, but you definitely wouldn’t want to put in a 100A fuse. This is because a 120A fuse will allow 120 amperes before it blows. Your amp only needs 25 amperes so I would be allowing a lot of dangerous amount of current to get to the amp before the fuse blew. You could have a short the fried your amp and the fuse would still not have blown.

Now when you are installing multiple car amps in you system the process is somewhat the same. You have the main fuse within 12″ of the battery. The rating of this fuse will be determined by all the fuse ratings of all the amps you are installing. So let’s say I added another amp to the system above and this amp had 3) 20A fuses. So that would give us a total of 60 amperes for that amp and the 25 amperes for the other amp for a total of 85. I would want my fuse by the battery to be 85, or most likely rounded up to a 90A fuse. Now I also need to fuse each amp as well. For this you would use a distribution block. A distribution block is just what it sounds like; it distributes the main power wire to smaller power wires that go to the individual components.

I want to use a fused distribution block and the fuse rating would be the same as above. I would use a 60A fuse and a 25A fuse, and run the wire from the distribution block to the amp itself. By wiring up your car amps this way you will not allow more current than your amp can handle. It is also important to make sure your system is properly grounded when using multiple components. I usually will use a ground distribution block. These are not fused but other than that they are the same as a power distribution block. It is also a good idea to make sure you have the right size wire for the amount of power your system is producing.

The Smart and Cool Way to Go for Car Stereo and Car Alarm Installation

January 10th, 2012 DVD Portable No comments

In today’s hi-tech and state of the art motors and vehicles, there is practically no use of going for the car alarm installation as they are already fitted with one. But, this is not the case if you have an old model motor or vehicle with only few electronic gadget systems and no car stereo products. In these oldie auto and vehicle models, it becomes very important to go for auto stereo system and auto alarm installation. With the latest auto alarms and car audio system models available in the market, the very first thing which you need to do is choose the model which is compatible with your motor or vehicle electromotive setting.

Next, you should have the necessary tools available so that installation procedures can be started. The most common tools which are needed for the car audio system and car alarm installation use includes wire cutters, screwdriver set, electrical tape, Wire Stripper and of course the device. One thing which you need to keep in your mind when installing auto stereo player is to keep the space empty so that car amplifier installation can also be done. If you are not in a hurry to opt for vehicle amplifier installation now, even then, you should keep the space for car amplifier so that it can be easily fitted with the auto stereo player later on.

If you have to do vehicle audio system as well as car alarm installation, it would be pretty necessary that you start with the installation of car audio system. This is necessary because you will have to connect the car alarm directly to your auto stereo system. Car alarm uses the speakers and amplifiers of vehicle stereo for generating the output.

Start with the actual car stereo installation procedure by reading the technical manual and the wiring diagram. You need to place the wires exactly in the manner as shown in the diagram. If you have bought an integrated car stereo and car alarm system, there will not be any need to go for separate wiring. Common wiring system is laid for the integrated units.

The positive wire coming from each of the speakers will connect to the positive terminal of the vehicle stereo from the back. Next, connect the negative wire from each speaker to the negative terminal of the car stereo system in the back side. Now you connect the ignition wires both + / red to the car stereo system. Remember, if there is only one wire coming out from the speakers, they are fixed to the chassis.

After you have installed the car stereo system, you need to fix the car alarm unit in aspirate slot provided adjacent to the stereo system. The wire from car alarm unit will be fixed to car stereo system.

Make sure that you follow the car stereo and car alarm installation procedures one by one and in sequence. Do not try to jump directly to any instruction as this will lead you to confusion.

Author writes specifically on the technical as well as physical aspects of Car Stereo System, Car Alarm Installation and Car Amplifier Installation respectively.

Why Choose Specialized Car Audio Systems Over Factory Car Stereos?

January 10th, 2012 DVD Portable No comments

If you’re serious about your in-car audio experience, there’s no need to make do with a factory-installed sound system. Mobile audio experts can hook you up with equipment that will provide you with better sound quality that reflects your personal taste and audio system components that let you listen to exactly what you want to hear while you’re on the move.

Modern mobile audio is a whole new field in entertainment technology. Car stereos and audio systems have come a long way from cassette decks or even CD players. There is a full range of car audio electronics out there that are designed to provide you with the best sound and entertainment quality possible in your vehicle. Ordinary stereo systems that come with your car work well enough for some people, but if you’re serious about your in-car listening, a mobile audio specialist can help you learn about what products, services, and tools are available to meet the audio dream you have for your vehicle.

If you are seeking a specific sound quality in your car, a personalized car stereo system is definitely the way to go instead of staying with the standard setup. Factory stereo systems provide a good, basic speaker configuration and volume control but are limited in their scope. For those of us who enjoy being able to crank up the bass, for example, a subwoofer can make all the difference. Subwoofers are a specific type of speaker that focus on low-frequency sounds (the bass). In a vehicle, a subwoofer will be even more effective because of the small size of a car interior and will provide the necessary sound power to make your bass present in a way that most factory systems can never hope to match. Other types of specialized speakers can also improve overall sound quality, so if you’re a music lover, it is worth your while to check out your options.

In addition to providing sound quality that is above and beyond what’s possible with a normal OEM sound system, you can also turn to specialized car audio electronics in order to get the specific audio content you’re looking for. Satellite radios and iPod integration systems are two of the most popular and effective mobile audio features that can take your listening experience to the next level. Satellite radio eliminates the static and poor reception that often plague normal radio and gives you an incredible range of choice in stations that won’t change no matter where you travel. iPod integration systems serve a similar function, allowing you access to your music collection without ever having to change a CD or switch channels to avoid commercials or to find something you want to listen to.

When you’re serious about your in-car listening and entertainment experience, consider choosing a specialized car audio system over the factory-issued stereo that your car came with. Whether you want better quality speakers or more options in your listening choices, there’s an array of mobile audio equipment available to help you create your ideal in-car sound system.

Review – Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol

January 10th, 2012 DVD Portable No comments

Whether it’s through television, movies or video games, Mission: Impossible has managed to stay relevant and hang around for a very long time. While the television series rose to prominence in the 60′s, the film adaptation starring Tom Cruise was created in the mid 90′s. This film series has been around ever since and it continues with the next film in the franchise called Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol.

Super spy Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) finds himself in an impossible situation. The IMF is shut down once they are suspected of being involved in a terrorist bombing plot and Hunt and his team (Paula Patton, Simon Pegg) are now left out in the cold. Now that they are fugitives, the team knows that they have to clear their names and save the IMF. In order for this to happen, “Ghost Protocol” must be initiated. Going off the grid with no help and no solid plan, Hunt and his team must go undercover and do what they do best. If they choose to accept it, they must complete their mission by making the impossible seem possible.

Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol features almost everything that you would expect from movies in the spy genre. You have your hand to hand combat, weapons, high-tech gadgets, a mad man with an eye on world destruction and of course espionage. It can also be a source for quite a few laughs due to the film’s attempts at comedy. This aspect of the film is usually carried by Simon Pegg, but the others get involved on the comedic side of things once in a while and usually with good results.

This movie didn’t do much as far as character development is concerned. Instead of focusing on that, they throw you into the action right from the very beginning. We get a little bit of back story, but that ultimately just adds to the main story and not really the characters themselves. In Ghost Protocol, the action is more important than anything else and it’s delivered in a fun way with high-paced energy. Some of it is what you’d expect, but they also tossed some new wrinkles into the mix.

One of my favorite action sequences that used one of these wrinkles was a chase scene that starts off on foot, but eventually turns into a car chase. That alone was great, but what made it better was the fact that all of it was supposed to be taking place in the middle of some terrible weather. This scene and many others were artistically done and made to look beautiful. Imagery and style stand out in this movie and it adds to the overall experience of watching it.

Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol maintains the soul of this franchise. With its crazy gadgets, classic theme music, action and flare, it feels like it’s supposed to right from the beginning. It has its flaws and it doesn’t have a ton of emotional substance, but the pure fun and entertainment that’s brought to the table more than make up for that. In my opinion, this film may be the best in the entire series and it’s certainly something worth checking out if you’re a fan of the franchise or if you just want to watch a good action movie that contains some solid comedy.

Car Audio Systems – Top 5 Factors

January 10th, 2012 DVD Portable No comments

When buying car audio systems there are many factors to consider such as the subwoofer quality or the watts output of the speakers. Having a in-dash stereo system for music or general radio is common practice with all cars. This way you can listen to whatever you want when you are stuck in traffic jams behind the steering wheel for hours.

Its an important car part

When purchasing any car part you have a list of factors that you consider which usually involves comparing the cost against the performance of the component. This is no different from buying entertainment equipment. If you are not clued up on buying portable entertainment equipment which aims to mimic the quality of home theater systems then read on for my top 5 factors to consider when buying car audio systems.

Factor 1 – Free ipods and mp3 player

There is no such thing as free bonuses when it comes to buying multiple items at once. What I mean by this is when you buy say a radio for the car and get a free ipod or mp3 player then you need look at the competitive price of the car radio. What I mean by that is the price of the radio might have been increased to allow a free ipod or mp3 player to be added as a bundle.

Factor 2 – Quality of electrical equipment is usually price specific

Usually if something sound to good to be true then you need to research it very well to make sure there are no hidden drawbacks. Car audio systems usually increase in quality as the price increases just like almost any other electrical product on the market. If you do however see a good deal then which might include a complimentary digital photo frame then home theater components then do not be hesitant to take advantage of it.

Factor 3 – Pioneer and Bose are the way to go over no names

Go for the big brands and you will have piece of mind. The big car audio systems brands such as Pioneer and Bose do not release music equipment unless it has been extensively tested and is guaranteed to work to high quality levels for a long period of time. This is the case because they want to protect they’re brand image by always satisfying their customers.

Factor 4 – Audio speakers and subwoofers

The quality of music that is electronically produced is always limited by the speakers or subwoofers and car audio systems are no different from this. For cars it is best to have a surround sound setup with multiple speakers so that all passengers can get a good music experience, not just the driver.

Factor 5 – Modern or old?

How modern your theater in a box is will depend on the brand of the product. Some companies like to update their interfaces which the latest touchscreen technology whereas others concentrate on the fundamentals of high quality audio output via a simple in dash car setup.

What Makes a Good In-Car Camera for Motorsports?

January 10th, 2012 DVD Portable No comments

Many of today’s action cameras promise to be able to withstand the shocks and high vibration levels faced in motor sports and action sports environments. But is this really the case?

The truth is that most standard action cameras provide adequate footage for club level racing but when used in intermediate and professional level race vehicles these systems just don’t hold up. Many of these lower quality camera systems can’t stand up to the increased vibration levels and greater rigidity of top-level motor sports vehicles.

So what key design features do this standard systems lack and what should be considered for the development of robust professional motor sports camera kits?

Capture Resolution – With the development of high-definition video many modern camera systems boast that they incorporate full HD 1080 resolution recording. However, many of these systems are still using interlacing (1080i), which can cause the image to blur. Action Camera specialists know the important of using progressive sampling (1080P) to capture the best video and shots. The problem with interlaced video is that the video chipset renders an image in alternate lines. This video capture technology is now seen as somewhat limited with progressive sampling now at the forefront of video technology. Progressive sampling enables the chipset to capture each image (frame) independently, which allows for clearer freeze frames in video. The difference between interlacing and progressive sampling is very important when using a camera for action sports, as an in-car camera system or motor sports camera. The nature of the objects in shot moving at relatively high speeds means that progressive sampling gives much clearer image quality.
Camera Fixing – Many action cameras and sports cameras on the market don’t enable the use of universal parts. These camera systems are developed to only use branded mounting options, which are unique and usable only with that particular brand of products. These are often expensive and many motor sports users resort to adapting the fixing kits to suit their particular vehicle/s. A good in-car camera for motor sports should in theory have an industry standard ¼ inch mounting like on traditional tripods and other digital cameras to enable compliance across the field. The best cameras on the market have this and it allows the user to mount their cameras on universal suction cup mounts, roll bar mounts and surface mounts on vehicles. The user is then able to select the mounting option they require and proceed with getting the camera into the car without ordering additional kit.

The best motor sports and in-car footage is captured using mounts with little or no mechanical movement. Users should also avoid using mounts with long extension arms as these will allow more movement from the point of fixing, which leads to vibration in the camera and camera shake. Ideally the mount will be rigid, 1 piece and no more than 2cm from the point of fixing. Some in-car cameras and motor sports cameras have additional shock absorber pads. These go between the point of fixing and the clamp or mount and limit very high vibrations from the vehicle. This means that effects like image ripple can be eradicated. Another way of limiting image ripple effect, which is caused by slower electronic shutter speeds, is to ensure you purchase a camera with higher Hz shutter speeds. The best way of determining this is to check out some footage of the camera in a high vibration environment or ask the retailers who are selling the camera.

Recording – Motor sports Cameras and in-car cameras should have the ability to initiate / stop recording without driver input. The driver’s task is to win the race not press ‘record’ while he is strapped into a harness, safety suit and wearing gloves and a helmet. Some of the better motor sports action cameras have an infra-red or RF remote control allowing the pit team to start recording just before the driver leaves the pits, saving on wasted storage space and also allowing the driver to concentrate on what they do best.

So there you have it some of the key design features of robust in-car camera and action camera kits. To ensure that you get the best footage from your potential motor sports or in-car camera and action cameras, follow the above pointers before buying and you should end up with a camera capable of delivering excellent quality footage.

Advantages of Dual Screen In-Car DVD Players

January 10th, 2012 DVD Portable No comments

Since the demand for entertainment on the road has been growing steadily, many of the new car models come with in-car DVD players as a standard features, but these units are also sold separately and could be mounted on any headrest. They are ideal if you have to take the whole family on a long trip, and work extremely well for keeping your kids on the back seat entertained. There are many makes and models, carrying different features and options, but almost all of the portable DVD players, which were manufactured in the past few years, offer outstanding picture quality and decent audio. Typically, they support most of the popular multimedia file formats, allowing the users to play videos, browse through their vacation photos, or listen to music. Some make use of the wide screen, 16:9 aspect ratio screen format, and have similar control options to the regular DVD players.

The dual screen portable players are also of two kinds – models, which have one main unit and display the same video across both screens, and models with two independent players, allowing two different movies to play at the same time. Typically, they are powered with a car adapter, but some could be powered by batteries or mains adapter, which permits their use while camping or inside the house. The mounts also differ, but the higher-end in-car DVD players come with mounting that allows them to be firmly attached to the front seats’ headrests, which not only ensures better viewing pleasure, but also minimize the risks of injuries in the case of car accidents.

When purchasing a portable DVD player, you should consider a number of additional factors, apart from the supported video and audio file format, the included features, and the price. The most common complaints is of poor audio, so you need to choose model that ensures good sound quality; select one that allows headsets to be used too since this would allow the backseat passengers to stay entertained without destructing the driver. The cabling is also important, as you would not want dozen of tangled cables inside your car, especially if you have small kids in the back, and you should choose an in-car DVD player with remote control if your children are too young and cannot operate it on their own. From the various makes, select one that is well reviewed and liked by most users since it would offer you not only high quality picture and audio, but it is likely that it would outlast the cheaper brands as well.

Mobile Entertainment Systems for All Types of Vehicles

January 10th, 2012 DVD Portable No comments

Mobile entertainment systems that include DVD players, live streaming TV, or video game consoles have revolutionized traveling. No longer must parents listen to their children or backseat passengers complain on long car rides. With a vehicle entertainment system, all of your occupants are able to enjoy the ride with movies, TV, or video games to pass the time.

The idea of watching a movie or playing a video game while your vehicle speeds down the highway may be something we dreamed of as kids. Now, mobile entertainment is available for cars, SUVs, trucks, and even RVs for reasonable prices. With this technology, long car trips become fun rather than boring.

When choosing a mobile entertainment system, you will first want to determine your budget. Often, this will be the deciding factor when finding the best option for your family. You should also keep in mind who will be using it most often. Young children may appreciate the DVD player more than a video game console. There are many high quality systems available that can be customized to meet any lifestyle requirement or budget constraints.

You may be surprised at how affordable it is to integrate a video system into your vehicle. Whether you prefer an overhead flip down screen or individual headrest screens, your backseat passengers will be entertained while you drive. Some choose the headrest screens because they give an unobstructed view of the screen. Many of these models allow you to watch separate programs on each screen. However, a flip down screen may be larger and easier to see for those passengers in the third row.

Entertainment systems typically include headphones so that only those passengers who want to listen to the movie or show can. Others in the vehicle can enjoy conversation or listen to the radio without interruption. Whether you choose to install a DVD player or a more complex system that features live streaming TV, be sure to have it properly installed by technicians who are trained and skilled.

Another way to keep your passengers entertained while out on the road is a video gaming system installed in your vehicle. With this equipment, your favorite video games are at your fingertips. Even the front seat passenger can get in on the action with a dashboard screen. Gamers will appreciate the experience whether you are running errands or taking a cross-country trek. Suddenly, the car becomes a fun place to hang out.

Navigation and rearview cameras are easily integrated into mobile entertainment systems. With a GPS navigation system, you no longer have to worry about getting lost while traveling. It makes finding restaurants, gas stations, and locations you want to visit simple and stress-free. Rearview cameras are a safety feature that allows motorists to have a clear view of what is behind them when backing up. These cameras help drivers avoid pedestrians and other objects when in reverse.

No matter what features you choose for your entertainment system, be sure that you are working with a trained installation expert. He will be able to customize solutions to maximize your enjoyment for a minimal price. Don’t settle for one-size-fits-all entertainment, personalize your system so it meets or exceeds your personal preference and requirements.
